On behalf of Weill Cornell Medical College and New York Presbyterian Hospital, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Jim C. Hu, MD, MPH to the position Professor and Ronald Lynch Chair of Urologic Oncology and Director of the LeFrak Center for Robotic Surgery. He will join the Weill Cornell faculty in February 2015.
Dr. Hu earned his Bachelor of Science in economics and his Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and his medical doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his surgery and urology residency training at UCLA and a fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic urology at City of Hope National Medical Center. His initial appointment was at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School where he quickly rose to Associate Professor and the Director of Robotic Urologic Surgery and the Director of Prostate Cancer at the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center.
He is currently Professor of Urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Director of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery and holds the Henry E. Singleton Chair.
A former American Foundation for Urologic Disease scholar, Dr. Hu has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the US Department of Defense, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Dr. Hu is internationally renowned as an innovator in robotic and minimally invasive surgery and for describing technical advances to improve outcomes for robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy. He has lectured extensively and performed live demonstration surgeries nationally and internationally. Additionally, he is an established health services/outcomes researcher and has published in high impact journals such as the Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of Clinical Oncology, European Urology and Annals of Surgery.
Dr. Hu will be spearheading our clinical efforts in prostate cancer within the recently established Cancer Center at Weill Cornell Medical College/New York Presbyterian.
