Infertility Q and A with Dr. Peter Schlegel, associate professor of urology at Cornell. Dr. Schlegel answers several common questions about infertility in an interview.

What frequency of intercourse/ejaculation should one try during the attempts at conception?
Semen analysis standards are based on "abstinence" periods of 3-4 days, however during attempts at conception, a frequency of intercourse of every two days is recommended. Every man is different, though. Some men, especially those with low sperm production, have more sperm in the ejaculate with more frequent intercourse/ejaculation. To determine the optimal timing of semen production for an individual man, multiple semen analyses with different abstinence intervals may be required.
